Moving to Houston in March 2015 was the most significant decision of Ana’s life. Starting fresh, she swapped her Californian sandals for a cowboy hat and embraced her new city. On her first weekend in Houston, she decided to attend a “My Little Pony” meetup in the Galleria area. Excitedly, she messaged her friends on Facebook to let them know she’d arrived. One attendee replied, advising her to look for a tall guy with a bandana at Hot Topic.

When Ana found the group, she was thrilled to finally meet both old and new friends. They all headed to Cici’s Pizza for lunch, where she sat across from the tall guy with the bandana—Roy. He noticed her aqua blue Nintendo 3DS and started a conversation about video games.

That was just the beginning.

Their chats continued on Facebook and during various MLP meetups. They always sat together for season premieres and finales, and he introduced her to games she’d never played before. Whenever Ana left a message in their group chat, Roy was always the first to respond.

By May, after many attempts to hang out, Ana finally had a Saturday off following a hectic April. Their adventure began as Roy drove her around Houston, showing her places she’d never explored. After dinner at Cafe Adobe and catching Avengers: Age of Ultron at the theater, the rest of their story unfolded beautifully.

Nine years later, from moving in together, to traveling to places beyond Texas, to bringing three adorable cats into their growing family, Roy proposed to her on Valentine’s Day – of course, she said yes.
